Coffman Studio worked closely with the owners and interior designers during this project to create a multi-functional, and sustainable outdoor space that flows seamlessly and harmoniously with the interior space of this patio home.  Ceramic wall art, adorning the interior, draws people through the home to distinct, connected outdoor spaces: a dining room, living room, and a raised deck serving as a fire circle that are defined by a featured bold yellow wall.  These spaces provide maximum flexibility and choice, including full shade and filtered shade or open sky.

The materials utilized were simple but cohesive; a rusted metal fire pit, synthetic turf, rusticated steel planters, grasses, agaves, cacti and perennials, all allowing sight lines, focal points, and colors that drew their impetus from the interior design, to be the dominant features.  Low-voltage lighting enlivens the entire yard while the turf front yard is partially converted to a water-sensitive design that maintains concordance with the existing lush neighborhood.  The Colony House ultimately exemplifies the creative, integrated, congruous and sustainable designs of Coffman Studio.
